Should not save automatically...

Postby dango2003 » Wed Aug 15, 2007 9:27 pm

Occasionally I hit regionerate by accident. This has been particularly annoying when I do it on a project as a whole (not all of which is my code). The changes seem to being saved to file without my confirming that I wish to.

dango2003,

When you hit "Regionerate this" on solutions / projects inside the IDE, it uses the same services that the NAnt & command line utility use in order to Regionerate solutions and projects, meaning that the files are directly processed, and no undo is available.

I can understand why this is an annoyance. I can offer a message box that will prompt something like "Are you sure?", but that might annoy users who want this done automatically. So I will have to add a flag in the settings dialog that will determine if this message box should appear.

Since this is a bit more than a bug fix, I am moving this to the feature request forum and will add it to the upcoming survey.

Thanks.

You might also consider doing it in a similar fashion as R# does, that is regionerate files not using NAnt servicem but directly within Visual Studio, opening each file and then processing it, so that user could do ctrl+z on open file in IDE, and definately there should be a flag for this in settings dialog

kkozmic,

I guess its a matter of preference. When I used R# at my old workplace I kinda disliked the fact that it opened up every file in the IDE.
So basically we are talking about a flag that will determine wether each file should be opened (and ctrl+z will be available) or it will be processed using the background service which directly accesses the files.

I have added this to the list & survey.

Thanks guys.

Regarding the current vote for v.07: "Should not save automatically" is reasonable and important, assuming I can undo the whole changes easily. Opening changed files should be possible but optional as does ReSharper (conformance to expectation of the user).
